The localest cuisine…is all around you.
Denali is home to dozens of delicious edible berries and plant species that have been snacked on for thousands of years. You still should, but now you can download a guide to do it yourself as well!
Supercharge your hiking tour.
Part of the joy of a Northern Epics hiking tour is all the edible plants and berries you get to taste. Unfortunately, most people never try them again after their hike! It’s hard to be confident in plant identification when you can’t remember the specifics.
This guide fixes that. Instead of having your hiking tour be a one-and-done, you can refer to this guide when you’re out on your own hikes to remember all the tasty treats you tried on your tour!
It’s not just a guidebook. It’s an investment the authenticity of your vacation.
Hike like a local.
Alaskans are fiercely individual and self-sufficient. When you’re living in a place like this, you have to be. In our case, the Northern Epics team lives an hour away (one way) from the nearest grocery store.
So how do you survive in a place like this? You pick local berries. You pickle fireweed shoots in the spring. You snack on spruce tips, blueberries, and more as you hike. You turn nature into your pantry.
You want to experience Alaska? This is it.
It bears mentioning (pun intended)…
This is not for everyone. There is inherent risk in tasting edible plants. Since they haven’t been cultivated, they’re higher in compounds that could cause upset stomachs or allergic reactions.
Some have controversial flavors. And you have to make sure you’re identifying them correctly!
You can easily stay on the boardwalks and have lovely meals at the local restaurants of Denali, and if that’s what you prefer to do, there’s nothing wrong with that!
This is for the adventurers. The ones who eat the street meats in Mexico. The ones who go out of their way to get off the “tourist track” and see the real destination, with both the goods and the bads. If that’s not you, don’t download this guide! You won’t enjoy it, and you should put your money towards something else you’ll like more!
