Guide to Transportation in Denali

As you may have noticed, there are limited options for transportation in the Denali National Park area. Ubers, Lyfts and taxis are not a thing here! Fear not, there are still options for getting around while here. From renting a car, booking a transport or walking there are a few options that will work best for you and your travel companions!

Denali Transportation Services

The only transportation service in the area is Denali Transportation Services. Their services include transport from the train station, city transfers from Anchorage all the way to Fairbanks, and Denali Park shuttles. They are great to work with!

Renting a Car

If you aren’t already renting a car during your trip in Alaska, there are two options for you in Denali. Keys to Denali, which is located in Healy, about 15 minutes North of the park entrance. Keys to Denali has the most options for car sizes, they have sedans, mid-size SUV, full-size SUV, large SUV, and 12-person vans. U Drive Denali is the other option, they are located in the canyon area and only have Jeeps for rent. U drive has better options for time though as you do not have to book a full day, you can choose from 4hr, 8hr and full-day rentals. Jeeps are better for more adventurous itineraries as they are more durable, but they are more expensive.

Excursion & Lodging Shuttles

Many, if not all, excursions that run in and around Denali National Park provide complimentary shuttle rides to and from your adventure. Make sure to double check if your excursions have a shuttle service or not, it may be difficult, or expensive to get to them if not.

Some lodges in the area run shuttles, not all though so be sure to check if yours does! Most of these shuttles go to the Denali National Park entrance or around the canyon area.

Walking

If you are staying in the Denali Canyon area, walking is going to be your best friend. Most shops, lodges and restaurants are within walking distance. This could mean a five minute or 30 minute walk, but nonetheless, doable. The park entrance is only a mile or so from the end of the canyon, making it accessible for those willing/able to walk.

While transportation options are limited there are a few great options to help you get around. Hopefully this guide helps you plan your journey through Denali and ensures you have a way to get around!
